  1. Vim is public domain. If you are happy with Vim and want to express that,
  2. don't send me money. I don't need it. But I know a place where they do need
  3. your money. Please read on.

  5. Summer 1993 I spent one month in Uganda with a Dutch team. I was very
  6. impressed with what I experienced there. Together with local people we built a
  7. nursery school in Kibaale. In only three weeks from nothing to a roofed
  8. building!
  9.  
  10. Kibaale is a small town in the south of Uganda. It is an area that is suffering
  11. from AIDS very badly. About 30% of the adults are infected. Because parents
  12. die, there are many orphans. They need a lot of help. The Kibaale children
  13. centre is working hard to provide the needy with food, medical care and
  14. education. Food and medical care to keep them healthy now, and education so
  15. that they can take care of themselves in the future. This is the best charity
  16. program I have ever encountered.

  18. The key to solving the problems in this area is education. This has been
  19. neglected in the past years with president Idi Amin and the following civil
  20. wars. Now that the governement is stable again the people have to learn how to
  21. take care of themselves and how to avoid infections. There is also help for
  22. people who are ill and hungry, but the primary goal is to prevent people from
  23. getting ill and learn them how to grow their own crops.

  25. I was impressed by the progress that is being made there. The work is very
  26. well organized. Every dollar is spent on something useful. Our team brought
  27. about $2000. For that money we were able to built most of a two classroom
  28. nursery school. They have further plans to build a primary school and houses
  29. for the teachers. They also need money for books and other teaching materials.

  33. How do you know that the money will be spent right? First of all you have my
  34. personal guarantee as the author of Vim. Further the project is co-sponsored
  35. and inspected by World Vision, Save the Children Fund and International Child
  36. Care Fund. I will work for the project as a volunteer from September 1994 to
  37. August 1995.
